Various reinforced earth retaining walls were constructed in Glenwood Canyon to accommodate for the possible large differential settlements of the foundation soils. The first time these walls were constructed with 10-foot wide and 20-foot high fascia panels. These panels admirably withstood severe differential settlements. However, they did not meet the specifications for the final alignment due to the horizontal rotations associated with the vertical settlements. However, they did not meet the specifications for the final alignment due to the horizontal rotations associated with the vertical settlements. Therefore, it was decided to complete the construction of the walls in two phases. The walls have been monitored since completion of the phase one construction, and the results are presented in this interim report., Majid Derakhshandeh, Tim Bowen., "Prepared In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration.", "March 1986.", Includes bibliographical references (page 33)., Interim report, Online resource; title from PDF cover (viewed September 2022), Report number CDOH-DTP-R-85-15.

Several years before the publication of the 1970 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Divices (MUTD), the Colorado Division of Highways initiated field tests to investigate the relative brightness and durability of yellow and white paint stripes in the beaded and unbeaded condition and to determine the acceptability of partially-beaded centerlines. After the issuance of the 1970 edition of the Manual, the Division sought and received FHWA approval for continued testing as proposed in MUTCD Request No. M-1-71. Approximately 100 miles of Colorado State Highways in different geographical areas were striped with half-beaded center lines by reflectorizing only the first 7.5 feet of the normal 15-foot painted segments. The principal purpose of the experimentation was to determine if this method of reflectorization would adequately satisfy the requirements for nighttime visibility and would prove otherwise acceptable., prepared by State Department of Highways, Division of Highways, Planning and Research Division ; prepared for U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration., "October 1972.", Online resource; title from PDF cover (viewed September 2022)
