Reconstructing a water balance for North Crestone Creek : streamflow variability and extremes in a snowmelt dominated internal drainage basin
Reconstructing a water balance for North Crestone Creek : streamflow variability and extremes in a snowmelt dominated internal drainage basin
The San Luis Valley in Colorado is a semi-arid region that relies on streamflow from the surrounding mountain ranges for agricultural productivity and to recharge the important aquifer systems of the basin. The (North) Crestone Creek watershed is characteristic of the many small watersheds that drain the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the eastern side of the valley providing water for local water users, wildlife, and augmentation of Rio Grande flows through the Closed Basin Project reclamation efforts. This study investigates the range of hydrologic variability and extremes in this area over the last 426 years using readily available historic hydrologic and paleo-climatic data derived from tree-rings and other sources. Streamflow and precipitation reconstructions were generated and compared to the historic period of observation., Niah B.H. Venable, Steven R. Rediscovering the first fuel : states advance energy efficiency policy in the 2013 session
Rediscovering the first fuel : states advance energy efficiency policy in the 2013 session
The single greatest obstacle to advanced energy deployment in the United States may be access to quality financing. In the 2013 legislative session, it would appear that states have recognized that financing is a critical element in growing a new energy economy., Description based on online resource; title from PDF caption; (viewed September 2015)

Rediscovering the first fuel : states advance energy efficiency policy in the 2013 session
Energy efficiency has often been referred to as the "First Fuel." Although efficiency is widely viewed as the least expensive, lowest-risk investment for the nation's electric and gas utilities, it has never really had its turn in the national energy policy spotlight, until recently. In the 2013 legislative session, policymakers in 35 states have proposed 130 bills that would promote some form of energy efficiency policy., Description based on online resource; title from PDF caption; (viewed September 2015)

Regional field sanitation risk in the U.S. agricultural sector
Regional field sanitation risk in the U.S. agricultural sector
Representative data suggests that risk associated with lack of field sanitation is relatively low on U.S. farms. Data for the agricultural region that includes Colorado suggests that this region was a first mover in terms of the availability of toilets for farmworkers, but more closely followed national trends of increased access to hand wash and drinking water over time. Basic field sanitation definitions in available data are limited, however, and may not reflect the true extent of risk., Anita Alves Pena & Edward Teather-Posades., "December 2017.", Online resource; title from PDF caption (viewed May 2020)
