Stability and dynamic processes in the formation of high plains hailstorms
Stability and dynamic processes in the formation of high plains hailstorms
The structure of hail-producing and no hail-producing atmosphere is studied by examining rawinsondes launched at New Raymer, Colorado, in the summer of 1967. It is found through examination of mean soundings and the convective condensation level and level of free convection that an ample low-level moisture supply is important for hailstorms to form., "February, 1969.", This report was prepared with support from the National Science Foundation Grant No., Includes bibliographical references (p 51-53)., Prepared with support from the National Science Foundation grant no., Mode of access: World Wide Web.

Stable isotope analysis of centrarchid concentration areas
Stable isotope analysis of centrarchid concentration areas
This project addressed movement of nonnative fish into river reaches of critical habitat for endangered fishes from floodplain habitats. Nonnative fishes of the Family Centrarchidae are known to occur in floodplain ponds, backwaters, beaver ponds, washes and irrigation drainage ditches throughout the Grand Valley reach of the Colorado River. The primary objectives of this project were to determine whether the origins and movements of centrarchids in an 87-mile reach of the upper Colorado River and adjacent floodplain habitats could be identified using naturally occurring stable isotope and/or microchemical analyses, and determine the proportion of centrarchids in backwaters within the study area that originated from out-of-channel ponds versus in-channel habitats., by Brett M. State legislatures active in setting public utilities commissions' authority in 2013
State legislatures active in setting public utilities commissions' authority in 2013
Public Utilities Commissions (PUCs) regulate rate setting, infrastructure investments, and other electric and gas utility business practices. Because Utilities Commissions derive their authority from state statutes, legislators frequently play an important role in amending PUC authority. In the 2013 session, state legislators have introduced 176 unique proposals directed explicitly at PUCs., Description based on online resource; title from PDF caption; (viewed September 2015)

State renewable portfolio standards hold steady or expand in 2013 session
State renewable portfolio standards hold steady or expand in 2013 session
Challenges to the nation's 30 mandatory and 7 voluntary Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPSs) are not a new trend. However, those efforts appeared to gain momentum following the release of the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) "Electricity Freedom Act" late last year. While at least a dozen articles have outlined attempts to modify or roll back RPS legislation in the 2013 session, none have comprehensively reviewed all proposed legislation. This analysis seeks to add perspective to the RPS discussion by evaluating an expanded list of proposals that would increase, modify or decrease a state RPS., Bibliography: page 9., Description based on online resource; title from PDF caption; (viewed September 2015)

States seek to balance natural gas development with environment and local rights issues
States seek to balance natural gas development with environment and local rights issues
As one of the Nation's most abundant and in-demand energy sources, natural gas has also been one of the most debated fuel sources in state legislatures in 2013 legislative session. Driven by enhanced recovery techniques that increase the cost effectiveness of developing stranded and unconventional reserves, gross domestic withdrawals and production hit record levels in 2012. Correspondingly, prices have fallen from a high of over $14 in 2008 to $4 per MMBtu in 2013. the replacement of utility coal-fired generation with natural gas in recent years is a transition driven by cost competitiveness and heightened concerns over current and future emissions standards., Description based on online resource; title from PDF caption; (viewed September 2015)
