Colorado's housing shortfall : an estimate and review of existing studies / by Neal Marquez and Greg Totten
Since 2000, Colorado's housing market has undergone significant transformation. Population growth has outpaced new housing development, resulting in supply constraints and escalating costs. Between 2000 and 2023, residential property values and rental rates increased at rates exceeding income growth, thereby exerting considerable financial strain on many residents.Multiple studies have highlighted how Colorado's housing supply has not kept pace with housing demand and is particularly deficient relative to other states. Colorado's State Demography Office (SDO) estimates that 106,000 housing units were needed as of 2023 to overcome the housing shortfall., "September 2025.", Includes bibliographic references (page 11), Online resource; title from PDF caption (viewed October 2025)

Colorado's vital landscapes and resources report
Colorado's communities are closely tied to clean water, productive agriculture, wildlife, outdoor recreation, cultural heritage, and open landscapes that sustain both the economy and quality of life. Rapid growth and increasing pressures on these resources prompted the passage of SB24-174, which requires local and regional planning commissions, beginning in 2026, to consider housing needs, strategic growth, natural and agricultural land conservation opportunities (the "Vital Landscapes and Resources Report"), and the Colorado Water Plan when updating or amending comprehensive/master plans., "December 2025.", Online resource; title from PDF title page (viewed January 2026)
