The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), under the direction of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), released a guidance document in May 2007 entitled: EMS Pandemic Influenza Guidelines for Statewide Adoption as part of the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza Implementation Plan. The document includes strategies for developing both EMS response guidelines and 9-1-1 call taking and dispatching protocols that would be activated in the event of a pandemic influenza outbreak.
